After that I’ll give Be Invoked a look and depending on the quality of the existing subs I might release my own subtitles for the movie if necessary.

If you happen to have noticed any typos or other dumb flubs while watching the series (no matter how minor), please report them now as I’d like to make sure the subtitles are as polished as they can possibly be before making the batch release. So, what now, you might ask? The first obvious thing left to do is to put together a batch for the entire series. Fortunately the scripts for the final missing episodes eventually got animated in the form of the movie Ideon: Be Invoked, so be sure to watch that to witness the true, intended ending… It’s quite a spectacle to behold to say the least. Anyway, as people familiar with Ideon’s production already know, the series got cancelled prematurely before the storyline was fully finished, leaving us with this rather strange and abrupt finale. Amazing, huh? Very big thanks to everyone involved in the project who helped to make this happen (Kaixe and RX in particular), and all of you Ideon fans out there who have been following us all this time.

In the 3+ years this blog has been up, I finally managed to finish a full length series. Everything else is, I'm there.…Okay, maybe not really but still, damn.

The only anime I don't want is the black and white anime like the original Astro Boy, that's a bit too old for me. But I know I am one of the very few who likes these anime, even anime that is older than me I like. With a company like Discotek, I won't rule out any anime. Its not exactly Mazinger Z were talking about which is iconic on a whole different level.Well, I will keep my hopes up of a US release. I honestly can't see this getting a US release over so much other mecha shows, its extremely unknown in the US and looks very dated. Its not exactly Mazinger Z were talking about which is iconic on a whole different level. Thankfully Blu-ray fansubs have started to be released with Shin-getter's subs(soft sub this time!). Subtitles were hardcoded and would change and usually be too small. The video(at least in the beginning) I think was from HK bootlegs and video quality was bad. Certainly better than nothing and great that a group actually subbed it but I didn't like the quality. No offence to Shin-getter but I thought the fansubs were bad. Although it is debatable as Mobile Suit Gundam is often considered the first anime to show a truly grittier side of science fiction, Ideon undeniably has a very distinct presentation and plot style which had never been seen before, specifically with the series' emphasis on making the audience feel for the characters and their struggle against a hopeless scenario as opposed to just watching the Ideon do battle or feeling for the overall theme." It has been considered to be the prototype of the modern dark and twisted science fiction anime such as the above-mentioned Neon Genesis Evangelion, Akira and Tomino's own bleak Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. In many ways, Ideon was a first of its kind. However, unlike Ideon, The End of Evangelion,Īctually had survivors at the end of the movie, unlike Ideon's ending in Be Invoked, where everyone dies and turn into spirits. The Neon Genesis Evangelion series also ends in a similar fashion, with two theatrical releases: the first part (Death) being composed largely of clips from the already-released episodes, and the second part (Rebirth/The End of Evangelion) made up of new animation devolving into apocalyptic territory much like that of Be Invoked, right down to overtones of rebirth.

Space Runaway Ideon is a predecessor-of-sorts to Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion and deals with many of the same issues. On the other hand, the series has never been very popular, even among Japanese mecha fans. At one time it was rated #10 among the greatest anime series as compiled by famous anime magazine Animage (counting popularity, influence, and opinion). "The influence of Ideon on Japanese animation, despite its rough beginnings and infamous ending, has been considerable. Screen caps and gifs and that was more than enough to get me interested.Ĭonsidering it's only 39 epsiodes and a movie, Discotek or Nozomi are my guesses for a US release.Wiki I don't know anything about it other than it's in the mecha genre. Both the series and the movie is on my want list.
